Gut & Stool Testing

Your gut does far more than digest food. It holds much of your immune system and affects inflammation, mood, skin, hormones and brain health. When digestive symptoms, fatigue or inflammation don’t add up, a closer look at the gut is often one of the most useful places to start.

What a Comprehensive Stool Test Can Show

  • The balance of beneficial and imbalanced bacteria
  • Parasites, yeast and other opportunistic organisms
  • How well you are digesting and absorbing food
  • Inflammation and immune markers in the gut
  • Markers of the gut lining (sometimes called “leaky gut”)

Tests I Commonly Use

I choose each test from the specialty lab best suited to your situation, so the exact panels vary from patient to patient.

Brand names link to each lab’s own sample report (PDF), so you can see what a results report looks like. Your actual panel may differ, because I choose tests for each patient individually.

Who It May Help

People with long-running bloating, constipation, diarrhea, reflux or IBS, and people with autoimmune conditions, skin problems, fatigue, mood changes or neurological conditions where gut health may be a contributing factor.

What to Expect

You collect the sample at home and mail it to the lab. Results usually take two to three weeks, depending on the lab. We then review them together and build a step-by-step plan.
