Food Sensitivity Testing
Some food reactions are immediate and obvious. Others are delayed by hours or days, and they may show up as bloating, headaches, joint pain, skin flares or fatigue. Food sensitivity testing can help identify foods worth looking at more closely.
What It Measures
Food sensitivity tests measure immune responses (often IgG antibodies) to a panel of foods, and some also check for yeast such as Candida. This is not the same as a true food allergy test (IgE) or celiac disease testing, which I order separately when needed.
Tests I Commonly Use
I choose each test from the specialty lab best suited to your situation, so the exact panels vary from patient to patient.
- IgG Food MAP with Candida & Yeast (Mosaic Diagnostics) — 190 foods plus Candida and yeast, from a few drops of blood collected at home
- Food allergy (IgE) and celiac testing — through conventional labs when a true allergy or celiac disease is a concern
Brand names link to each lab’s own sample report (PDF), so you can see what a results report looks like. Your actual panel may differ, because I choose tests for each patient individually.
How I Use the Results
I use results to guide a short, structured elimination and reintroduction, not lifelong avoidance of long lists of foods. Your symptoms during reintroduction matter as much as the test itself. Healing the gut often allows foods to be eaten comfortably again.
Ready to Find Out What Your Body Needs?
Testing is most useful when it is chosen for your specific symptoms and history. I see patients in person in Norwalk, CT, serving Fairfield County and the NYC metro area, and by telehealth for Connecticut residents.
